Task 2:Mr. Mydin Mohamed Bin Ghulam Hussein



About Mydin
Mr. Mydin Mohamed Bin Ghulam Hussein, the founder of MYDIN was born in Penang on 5th of January in 1928. Mr. Mydin is actually from a wealthy family .His father, Mr. Gulam Hussein bin Jamal came from Kathiabar in Gujerat,India has sold all kinds of merchandise in his provision shop. Mr. Mydin Mohamed is educated in mainstream English school at Penang with his little brother,Mohamed Ali. Mr. Mydin Mohamed begins his business territory with his small shop that has a small space with his own money that has been earned by himself and without the help of government or his family even though he came from a wealthy family.Now its business leads by his son, Dato Ameer Ali Bin Mydin.
Mydin is the biggest business in Malaysia which undertake activity in wholesaling and retailing. The product ranges from food line,hard line, household and also soft lines items. Each of the branches has their own business category,based on the capacity of goods traded. The category comprises hypermarket,mini market,franchise store,convenience shop,emporium,and bazaar.Currently, Mydin operates 107 outlets nationwide inclusive of 23 hypermarkets which are located in Mydin mall,16 emporiums,3 bazaars,11 convenience shops (MyMart),5 franchise outlets (Mydin Mart), and 49 mini markets (MyMydin).
Now, Mydin Holdings BHD is no longer a foreign name in Malaysia because they have been nominated and won a variety of awards. Among them is Asia Pacific Entrepreneurship Awards (APEA), CIO Recognition Award 2006, and “Anugerah Tokoh Kepenggunaan Islam” (TOKI).

Team Oriented
In 1918, Mydin was founded by Ghulam Hussein Bin Jamal, the father of Mydin Mohamed. Sadly, during World War II their shop in Penang was burnt down and they lost everything. But because of strong determination, Mydin Mohamed continues the trades of wholesaling. Mydin Mohamed is born on 1928 at Pulau Pinang, a son of Ghulam Hussein Bin Jamal.  Team-oriented attitude and identity of the family in leading company helped to build determination in Mydin Mohamed to bring the success of Mydin. The first store that he opened was a starting point for him.With the help of his son and family, he expanded his business in Kuala Terengganu and Klang Valley. Since then, Mydin Hypermarket progressed to another level. They are popular with their catchy slogan, ’why pay more, buy at wholesale prices’.
          Now, Mydin Hypermarket already has more than 95 branches throughout Peninsular Malaysia and has been managed by his sons,Datuk Wira Dr. Haji Ameer Ali bin Mydin as Managing Director, Mr. Ahimmat Mydin and Mr. Salim Mydin as Executive Director. Visionary
Any success have in life must begin with a vision. A vision is the ability to see what others cannot see. The visionary of Mydin is able to see exactly what his business is going to look like in every detail when it done. He was having experienced trying to start a business on his own with his first merchandise, toys. After that, many kind of things he tried to sell in his business. He kept going with his visionary until now he is the success entrepreneur in Malaysia.
Mydin originally founded and operated by Malaysian entrepreneur who named is Mydin Mohamed Bin Ghulam Hussein. Mydin business activity is in wholesaling and retailing. The product ranges from food line,hard line, household and also soft lines items. Their vision for their company is the world’s leading contributor of competitive “Halal” good and services. Each of the branches has their own business category, based on the capacity of goods traded. Mydin operates its business based on ‘Halal’ concepts and stresses on honesty, sincerity and also good discipline in all aspects of its business.
Mydin also has collaboration with Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC). HDC is initiated by the Malaysian government to ensure the integrated and comprehensive development of the halal industry. Mydin has signed a memorandum of understanding with HDC on 17th September on 2009. Again, Mydin aspires to be a leading provider of halal products.
This visionary quality showed undoubtedly by Mr. Mohamed Bin Ghulam Hussein. He is the creator of Mydin which is one of the leading and well-established Malaysian-owned companies involved in wholesale and transaction. Proactive
Tuan Mydin Mohamed Bin Ghulam Hussein is the founder of the company Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad. At the early age of 1957 he opened a small shop in Kota Bharu, Kelantan. Starting from his own saving then receive a loan from the banking and landing instituition.
Now he is a successful entrepreneur. After Tuan Mydin, his son Datuk Wira (DR) Haji Ameer Ali Mydin continues this legacy as the director of Mydin Berhad. He shows proactive traits by finding a chance in the market and fulfil the needs for the market to compete with other local supermarket. He also finds feedback from the customer to fulfil his customer’s needs. Besides, if there’s a complaint from the customer, he doesn’t get angry instead he opens up and accept the complaint with a warm heart. From the feedback and complain, he can improve their weakness and can be successful in his business.
He act with initiatives towards the chances inside the market which was one of a proactive traits inside him. This action of taking chances is to form a new environment. He had his own goals and always wants to move forward. He also a creative person and expert in business world.
Observant
Observant means good at watching and listening. The entrepreneur that have this trait is good at observing what is happened in their environments. They also have the capability to expect what will be happened in the future and strategize what happened in future. Besides that, the entrepreneur also can make well-ordered planner for the organization for the long time. In this trait, the entrepreneur always find the way to think the next good ideas for the company’s future. They usually always think what is going to happened in the future. Not only around them, but also what happened to the world. Observations can be used in identifying potential companies and employees. Observant can be made by comparing the trend or industry comparison. The result of the observation will show the company’s performance in the current year.
            Observant is important values toward entrepreneur because through this trait they can look further to develop the business. They know how to analyze, design, formulate, and take all the opportunities.
One of the entrepreneur that have this trait is Mr. Mydin Mohamed bin Ghulam Hussein which is the CEO of Mydin Mohamed Holdings Berhad. He became a successful entrepreneur because he is an observant person. At the first time, he started his business he just had a limited capital. It is from his saving. But he can expand his business in stages-rank. It is proved that he has traits of observant and able to organize the business with successful by observing the people.
            By observing the people, he able to generate a lot of ideas by differ the products and goods according to the demand. He just started selling the daily necessities and toys in the store at first. But, Mr. Mydin planned a strategy in expanding the type of product sales like eletrical equipment, tableware, stationery, accesories, clothes and others. We should take this as example because he always moving forward although he has only a limited capital.
Lastly, he also observing the pricing of goods in his store. He makes an observation toward what Malaysian people like cheapest and high quality. The slogan "Why pay more? Buy at wholesale prices" Is one of the factors that attract the customers to his store.
Networked
Network is the process of creating coalition to individuals or organization else coalition to benefits available for breaches of barriers regulation had typically traveled by entrepreneur.
Through this network concept,Mydin business has expanded to whole  country.As a result of his network with his families which is his children,Mydin has grown from Kelantan to Terengganu in 1979 and then in Lembah Klang in 1989.With a clear vision to become a leading distributor,Mydin has now become a company that is Mydin Holdings Bhd.Mydin has now reached 28 branches nationwide with 4,000 employees.
 Mydin’s top priority is to to have a consistent flow network with the supplier,to logistics and warehouse,to the ground staff and management team.Mydin Holdings Bhd which is conducted by Dato’ Ameer Ali Mydin has entered a program (TUKAR) that is been handle under the government by the Ministry of Foreign Trade.This program is an initiative of the Ministry of Foreign Trade under the NKEA to modernize traditional grocery stores. The transformation process includes rearranging merchandise, implement point of sale system to a new, more efficient, and improve the appearance of the next in and outside the store. Shops that were given loans by the Bank of between RM20,000 and RM60,000.
            This mean that Mydin Holdings Bhd also have the concept of business network.Through this program(TUKAR),Mydin Holdings Bhd have get government trust as they appointed to be the operator for the “Kedai Rakyat 1 Malaysia”(KR1M) project.As an operator they are responsible to help installing hardware store and supply management,IT Support,provide technical and sales skills and training for the new traders.
            In conclusion, Mydin Holdings Bhd has been successful in the business world using a variety of concepts, including the concept of a network that has helped him remain in the market.

Task 1 : Proactive (Dato Aliff Syukri B. Kamarzaman)


Proactive means that having a positive action by constructing and controlling the situation before the expectation of what will happen. An entrepreneur who had proactive trait must have their strategy goals to make their business always move forward. Besides, always ready to face any problems in business.A proactive entrepreneur will act more aggressive in doing anything inside business world. An entrepreneur who had proactive trait must find feedback from their customer before their customers make complain. If received complain from customers, an entrepreneur must accept it and do not angry at that customer.
Aliff Syukri B. Kamarzaman is an owner of D’ Herbs Healthy Sdn. Bhd. He was born in Kechau Felda, Kuala Nipis, Pahang on 03 April 1987. When he was 28 years old, he had been awarded as rank “dato’”. He has been married to Datin Nur Shahida Mohd Rashid. After ends secondary school he continues studied at Taylor College. Since he a was child he started doing business. Interested in a business since the child makes him became a success entrepreneur. The first product he produced was lipstick collagen which is the first lipstick collagen in Malaysian. Now he produced many types of cosmetic products and his products are accepted by people.

Dato Aliff Syukri never stops his creativity on his product and also in his life. Dato Aliff Syukri graduated at SPM level only but he can be a success entrepreneur. This is because he was very active in creating a health and beauty products to the community. He starts a business just with small amount money and he never gave up on what was he doing. He sold the product to a colleague, and opened a stall in the market and finally created his own product and made a business with large size. 

Task 1 :Team Oriented ( Vivy Sofinas Yusof )


One of the treats that is needed in order to be a successful entrepreneur is team oriented. A team consists of a group of people who shared the same goal and working together to achieve those goals businesses that stress a spirit of teamwork and collaboration can capitalize on the individual strengths of their employees. There are a number of tactics that can foster a team orientation, from team building and diversity workshops to retreats, merit systems that identify and recognize team-oriented behavior and processes that facilitate project teams.
As for this trait is shown by this young successful entrepreneur, Vivy Sofinas Yusof or known as Vivy Yusof, the co-founder of Fashion Valet and The dUCk Group. At first, when she started her business together with her husband Fadza Anuar, they did everything together from taking the orders, dispatch in the warehouse, and else. But now since the company is more structured and established, they have discussed and decided roles for each of them. As for Vivy, her roles is the PR and marketing, buying and meeting with the designer which require her to go out a lot.

Vivy uses Whatsapp to discuss with the group and keep up with them. It shows that, behind this successful entrepreneur there is a team that support and help each other to keep maintaining their business. As for now, Fashion Valet has two branches outside of Malaysia which is Singapore and Jakarta and they are opening up another branch in Brunei. Right now Fashion Valet have 100 of staff from just the two,Vivy and her husband.

Task 1 : Outcome Oriented (Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin SM Amin)


Outcome-oriented means the mind that focuses on results and impact. An entrepreneur will open a business to get a good profit. In fact, entrepreneur will strive to achieve a continuous manner to further develop their business. The main goal of an outcome-oriented is individual or organization is to meet the objectives and realize positive growth. Entrepreneur must always concerned about the estimated costs and benefits of a renewal, amendment or an action and use the information business or management methods to improve the efficiency of self and businesses.
Entrepreneur that use the outcome-oriented value is Tan Sri SM Nasimuddin SM Amin. He was the founder, chief executive officer of the Naza Group of Malaysia. The Naza Group was formed in 1974 and it has 14 business divisions. The Naza Group of Companies is Malaysia’s largest privately-owned conglomerate with businesses in the automotive industry, property development, food and beverage and hotel management to name a few. (Naza Group Of Company, n.d.). Naza is more famous in the automobile business. When he was 53 years old, he died of stage four lung cancer at a private hospital in Long Beach, California, US on 1 May 2008.

For example, the attitude of businesses finds and seize results were Tan Sri Nasimuddin do can be seen when he bought 20 APs (approved permits) and then to Japan, where he spent three months and bring back 20 of the first unit of Japanese car dealers who sold them all in within three months. He started his automobile business in a shop in Taman Maluri and sell 10 to 15 units per month. In 1979, he opened a branch in Kampung Baru, Kuala Lumpur to intensify his retail business and sell 40 to 60 cars a month . Through this experience, he was able to expand its market in it.

Task 1:Open Culture (Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah)



‘Open Culture’  is an important trait for a successful entrepreneur to have. In the other word, an entrepreneur should cut the typical thinking about protection of their inner company’s secret and information. Although it would set a pretty dangerous possibilities for international relations, a strategic and good management by the management of the company itself can save it all.
Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah is an example of an entrepreneur who has practiced ‘Open Culture’ in his business. An accountant by training, Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah began his professional career at a motor assembly plant in Malaysia. In 1974, he founded the Sunway Group, one of Malaysia’s largest conglomerates with core interests in real estate and construction, and a 14,000-strong workforce. His range of business includes property, construction, retail, hospitality,  leisure, healthcare, education, trading and manufacturing, quarrying, building materials, commercial and real estate trust(REIT).Tan Sri Dr. Jeffrey Cheah determined to develop his business, Sunway Group to other countries like China, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, Australia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Malaysia and Singapore in 12 different areas of business. This truly shown that he have such a business minded and determined to grab the chance to develop his business not only in Malaysia, but also to the world. He received countless awards and recognitions from a local and international organization for his success.
As a conclusion, ’Open Culture’ is an important aspect that should be used by entrepreneurs to enlarge and develop their business to another level

Task 1 : Failure is an Option (Saiful bin Nang)

A failure is an option. All entrepreneur should clap with this ideology if they want to run a business for a long time. Mostly, the entrepreneur would not become successful at the first time. But, if they organize their business properly and learn from the past they can gain huge advantages over the other competitors.
            Failure can be destructive the business, but it also can make the entrepreneur stronger and smart. They should learn from it and move on to what is coming without depressing the team.
For examples is Saiful bin Nang or known as saiful nang . He is a professional photograph. He started his photography career after a failed 10 years ago. His business in 2002 and 2003 had failed miserably.
Until one day, the money in his pocket only RM90. He then got up and fight in the popular business of photography. He borrowed a camera from one of its investors and former acquaintances. They borrowed to him a camera and he learn about photography in a month.

His first customers were Sunatri bt. Lenny. Test RM1000 who are willing to pay more for the occasion. Then the business becomes more advanced and eventually he was able to buy his own camera. Now he has been able to build their own program of Apprentice Professional Photographer program in Saiful Nang Academy apprentices who bore a strong and gritty as an entrepreneur to professional photography.

Task 1 : Visionary (Dato Seri Dr Hajah Hasmizah Binti Othman)

The visionary definition is about a person planning and thinking the future of imagination or wisdom. Visionaries entrepreneurs are able to identify a service or product often long before others and they have the right kind of picture in their mind that lets them know what will be the outcome of their business venture. These are people with a singular vision for what they want to accomplish.To achieve success entrepreneur must have spirit and high ambitions. As an entrepreneur, success is not only for self-interest but it also contributes to the community.
For example, this can be seen in an entrepreneur that is now her name is being touted by the public, which is Dato Seri Dr Hajah Hasmizah Binti Othman which is popularly known as Dato Seri Vida or Dr Vida.
As a successful entrepreneur. Dato Vida has her own vision of how to introduce her product so that people can know about it. She aspires to expand her cosmetics and health business product in the global and international no matter how to advertise, promote and sell it. Vida Beauty has its own strengths. This company already has 38 branches in Malaysia and qualified workers that can help companies achieve the target set by the management.
Dato Vida has her own visionary spirit which it can be seen in herself. This shows that Dato Vida is someone that has the proper planning and effective for her future. She has struggled  to make her brand become famous and well-known. In order to make it success, she promoted her brand in her own way. She has the ability to make people love her and her strategies have definitely been working out for her to make people love her.Last but not least , the vision that set by Dato Vida indirectly becomes a role model for another entrepreneur.

Task 1 : Observant (Tan Sri Tony Fernandes)

Observant is defined as good at noticing things around a person in the Oxford Learner’s Dictionaries.In the process of becoming a successful entrepreneur, one of the features that need to be available in each entrepreneur is to have observant. This is very an important value in them as an entrepreneur because it allows them to view even further in developing their business. The entrepreneurs who know how to plan, analyze, formulate and take every opportunity is the entrepreneurs who have observant in themselves.
This observant value lies within Tony Fernandes who is the founder of Air Asia Airlines. Tony Fernandes is a well-explained example for observant trait entrepreneur. Back to the history, the nine of eleven terror attacks gave airline industry gives the hardest hits and economic effects around the world. However, Tony treats it as a chance for him to move into the uncertain airline industry. He was seeing the opportunity to provide flight service where the other airline that has cut down the flight path. The observant trait makes Tony take the first step to the route of an entrepreneur.

The former Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad suggested to Tony to take over the existing airline with zero cost which is the government-owned subsidiary that heavily indebted, instead of start from scratch. With rational thinking, this suggestion would not be taken by any people. Again, Tony was seeing it could enable him to operate low-cost flight services. Thus, he used RM 1 (Ringgit Malaysia) to buy the existing airline. One year after, Air Asia had cleared all the debts. Nowadays, Asia airline still operates and still gets attention from all Malaysian to use its services.

Task 1:Open Risk Taker (Mohd Safiuddin Bin Ilias)

    
      According to Collins English Dictionary (2007, p.1901), an open risk taker can be defined as an individual that tends to behave in a way that can potentially cause physical harm or financial loss, but might also present an opportunity for a rewarding outcome. 
     Mohd Safiuddin Bin Ilias is the youngest  millionaire of cosmetics in Malaysia at age of 19 years. His famous name is Safiey Ilias. He is the founder of DSI Empire which was established in January 2016.
       Safiey Ilias had studied at UiTM Shah Alam only for one semester. He stopped studying because he wants to focus on his businesses. It shows he is a brave person to take the risk to achieve his goal as a success entrepreneur. He was willing to stop studying in the university while he did not know whether the business will be successful or not. If not successful, businesses will be destroyed, he will have no education and no financial resources to get back for study in the university.
   Safiey Ilias managed his businesses carefully to avoid the risk of going bad. He did something to ensure his business runs smoothly and growing. He has his own strategies to run his business which is not to start a business with debt. He did not set up shop and hire many people at the beginning of his business to reduce expenses to keep monetary fine. After his business stable, he managed to hire people and open his own company.He has achieved a lot of success in the businesses cosmetics in Malaysia. For his latest product near the end of 2016, he realize new skincare which is Babies Glow.

Task 1: Networked (JIMMY CHOO)

In business, a network is an important thing for an entrepreneur. The network is the process of creating a coalition to individuals or organization else coalition to benefits available for breaches of barriers regulation had typically traveled by an entrepreneur. Establishment and preservation of human relations for mutual benefits are more powerful and extensive network of increase in many benefits of the business.
 As for the example of an entrepreneur that have a good network is Jimmy Choo who is the founder of a fashion designer that rose to fame for the quality and style of his handmade women’s shoes in London. Jimmy Choo was born in Pulau Pinang, Malaysia in 1961.He learned to make the craft of shoe making, he further his study to Cordwainers Technical College in Hackney, England in 1980s until his graduate with honor in 1983.Since that, he started his life as a fashion designer until he became a famous shoe maker in London.
Jimmy Choo is an example of an entrepreneur that have a good network which is the most influential person in London. Jimmy Choo had a good network with Vogue magazine, therefore, Vogue magazine willing to help him to promote his shoes until he is famous and became the darling of the celebrity world. Princess Diana, who donned Choo’s footwear seemingly everywhere she went. Then Jimmy Choo was approved by Yeardye Mellon to hired him to make shoes for a fashion shoot. This chance will make him a larger market for Choo’s creations. Then she approached him about partnering to create a line of ready-to-wear footwear. This is what make him have a good network.
